This PR and branch is meant to be short lived, collecting api-breaking changes for a v5 release of the common SDK

1. Mere breaking changes into this branch (use Squash & Merge)
2. Cut pre-release from this branch, (using prerelease suffix)
3. Prep updates to the derivative SDKs to accommodate breaking changes including any migration documentation
4. update version to 5.0.0 in this branch/pr
5. Merge to main using Merge Commit

OR

1. Stack PRs end to end on this, with the last PR setting the version to 5.0.0
2. Use the local-install.sh script to prep updates to derivative SDKs (will also likely need major version bumps) including any migration documentation
3. When everything is ready, merge the stacked PRs to main

Then

1. cut and release JS SDKs (w/breaking changes and migration callout)
2. Merge docs changes
